The No Grow Zone, what is it? I will give you a hint, it can be seen in both Plants and Humans. The No Grow Zone is a place that some might be familiar with, some by choice, others by desperation. It’s a place that a majority of people do not want to venture out of because of comfort. What comfort? Comfort is the place that human’s like to hang out in because it’s safe. So with the No Grow Zone being safe, it MUST be a great place to hang out at, correct? I guess it could be if you were a plant that was growing in a pot and had no choice right? WRONG!!! Even then it’s not safe!!! Let me explain, Let’s just observe nature for this observational study. Have you ever seen a potted plant? Okay from the outside, the plant might look healthy, blooming if it had fruit to bare, but what is really going on behind what is out of sight? Let’s put on our imaginary X-Ray glasses, what do you see now on the other side of the plastic pot where the plant is contained in? You see soil and the roots of the plant. What else might you see? Yes, you might see the nutrients in the soil, maybe some symbiotic relationship between bacteria or fungus in the soil. What else can you see???? Think about it…………………
Okay for the people that have re-potted a plant, you might see where this is going. For the ones that are a little lost, no worries, let’s figure this out. The seed that was once planted in that pot had the room to grow. The roots had plenty of room in the pot to stretch out into the soil and absorb all of it’s nutrients from every corner in the pot. Now that the plant is larger, the roots have encircled the soil numerous of times in the pot trying to scavenger any nutrient to survive. What does the plant do now? If your X-Ray glasses are working properly, you would see a root system that resembles the shape of the pot.
Ladies and Gentleman, Welcome to the No Grow Zone!
But that’s the Safe, Comfortable place right? Does that first picture below look comfortable to you? You see, the plant has several options though;
Option A) Accept that the pot isn’t any larger, stunting the growth of the plant, eventually causing it to wither away due to the lack of nutrients left in the soil.
Or
Option B) If the plant’s root system is strong enough, it can break through the pot and the No Grow Zone.
Or
Option C) The plant can have it’s root system start to grow out of the pot and the No Grow Zone through the small draining holes on the bottom of the pot.
Either of the last two options give the plant the opportunity to Grow Out of the No Grow Zone. You see plants, like us humans, have a lot in common. Both want to grow, both want the most out of their lives. Growing out of the No Grow Zone is where the REAL growing takes place. The misfortunes, the bad hands that were dealt, the experiences that you fear, constraints that we put on ourselves physically and mentally DOES NOT have to be our future. We CAN GROW out of the No Grow Zone.
I challenge whoever is reading this to Grow Out of the No Grow Zone, take the chance, you will learn and you will grow.
Head up, Eyes Forward
Option A)
Option B)
Option C)
