For the first time in my life I had to collect my own stool for a stool culture that was ordered by my specialist, what an experience. It truly humbled me to say the least!!! Next time I order a stool culture on a future patient I will make sure to demonstrate empathy because the entire process is just unusual. As practitioners we can sometimes get lost in our own train of thoughts and can sometimes misconstrue labs, monitors, and charts as the actual patient but we must remember that patient X is a human that has feelings and emotions and that’s first and foremost.
