#1 Slayer of Focus - Blog 08

While attempting to wrap up my literature review for my evidence-based research II class, several thoughts came to mind. I am the first to admit that I need to lock myself in a room to focus on the task at hand. I like to make sure that every distraction that could possibly derail my train of thought is omitted. Does life happen? Can it cause you to be distracted? Absolutely, life is very sneaky; life is always trying to make sure that you are on your toes. With that being said, the amount of distractions coming from your smartphone is absolutely insane. Don’t think that your smartphone is causing significant distractions? Try an experiment and see how long you can go without being distracted by your phone? Time yourself and keep track to see how many times a day does your phone cause you to stop what you are doing. It’s sickening when you come to think of it in times of distractions, but let’s not forget the actual time spent participating in the distraction.

I will let you all in on a secret feature on your phone if you weren’t aware, it’s called DND (Do Not Disturb). I met her about 5 years ago and let me tell you; she changed my world. She knows when I politely ask her to hold all phone distractions, she knows that FOCUS mode is about to be engaged. The relationship revolves around setting boundaries between Mrs. DND on your smartphone and you.

Everything in moderation is a good policy to practice in life. Don’t let the distractions from a smartphone take away from the interactions that you are witnessing or taking part in.
