It all feels surreal, I honestly feel like it hasn’t hit me yet. I remember when the thought of going into medicine was just that, a simple thought. That thought occurred when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 40. My definition of unconditional love eventually passed away at the age of 45, she left my two younger sisters, my father and I way too soon. The pain of loosing a parent at such a young age, as much as it hurts still to this day, has also fueled my burning passion for medicine.
I made a promise to my mother that I would study medicine in order to help others that would eventually go through what I was at that time, Promise made, Promise keep ❤️ I left a 13 year career as a paramedic / firefighter along with a pension to chase this dream. I sacrificed a lot throughout the last decade of my life to include friendships, relationships, birthdays, family time, vacations etc. in the end it was all part of the plan. Truthfully, a majority of the people doubted me, some tried to make me reconsider, others tried to make me postpone my insane undertaking. With that being said, I want to Thank Everyone ❤️ that has helped me get to this achievement in life, yes to include the people that doubted me. I would not be here today without the support of my family, friends, mentors and colleagues.
Special thanks to the faculty, staff and preceptors at FSU College of Medicine for all their leadership in making sure that our program stayed on track during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I am starting a new career from scratch, I would be lying if i said it wasn’t scary. I had a home that I had purchased, a 13 year rewarding career with the United States Air Force, and a pension. Now, I have massive school debit, regular debit, a brand new career, and no job just yet…. Scary???? Absolutely, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. If I did it once before then I can do it all over again. I was born to help people, it’s what gives me joy in life. I would be doing a disservice to others if I didn’t strive to be the best version of myself. My guardian angel saw my gift in me before I ever did, she always knew. I look forward to sharing my gift with the world on this new journey as a Physician Assistant.
❤️ Look Mom, I did it ❤️
